HealthStaffEd Senior Medical AdvisorDr Philip Lee: MBBS, Post-Grad Dip Palliative Medicine, FAChPM, Palliative Care Specialist![]() Philip is a palliative care specialist at a university teaching hospital in Sydney. He was a general practitioner in Western Sydney for 23 years and has been involved in palliative care for over 16 years. Since 2002 he has been working in full-time palliative medicine in both Sydney and the country. He is focused on providing holistic, patient-centred care, integrating hospital-based care with primary medical and nursing community care. Philip is also involved in palliative care research; multidisciplinary cancer care; teaching medical students, hospital residents and nursing staff; and lecturing at a college of nursing. HealthStaffEd Senior Nurse AdvisorJudith Jacques: RN, Grad Dip (Palliative Care), Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)![]() Judith has been a registered nurse for more than 30 years, specialising in palliative care for over 15 years. She has worked as a senior clinical nurse in a number of tertiary hospitals in that time. Judith is authorised to practice and has been working as a nurse practitioner in New South Wales.

She was chief sub-editor of Nursing Standard and production editor of Nursing Times, and has freelanced for the London Sunday Times, the Times Educational Supplements, and the World Wide Wounds Website.
Jolan Yik-Paal: BCom, LLB![]() Jolan is a litigation solicitor with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University. She has extensive litigation experience in acting for plaintiffs in medical negligence matters, including hypoxic births and failure-to-diagnose cases.
Rael Martell: BA, MA![]() Rael is a Melbourne-based journalist specialising in health and social care. He has recently worked as a writer for Beyond Blue: The National Depression Initiaitve. Rael has also worked for publications in Australia and the UK, including The Times, Nursing Standard, Nursing Times and the general practitioners’ and health workers’ magazines GP, Pulse and Community Care (all in London).
Rebecca Burns, BPsych, BSW (hons), M.A.A.S.W![]() Rebecca is a social worker with experience working in mental health, child protection, domestic violence and general counselling fields. Rebecca is currently employed by the South West Aboriginal Medical Service as a Program Manager for the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team. Rebecca also undertakes some work with the social work program at Edith Cowan University and is completing her Masters by Research.
Tara De Koning: RN, Grad Dip (Child and Family Health), Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)![]() Tara has over 16 years’ experience in child health across primary, tertiary and community/ambulatory health care settings. Janet Hitchener: RN, RM, RNNIC, Grad Dip (NSG), Master of Bioethics, Dip OH&S![]() Janet has a strong background in senior health management and quality improvement. She is experienced in the implementation of quality improvement systems and tools in health care, and has extensive experience in human resources management.
Kellee Biffin RN, RM Bachelor of Nursing, Post Grad Diploma Orthopaedic / Spinal Injuries![]() Kellee has been a registered nurse for 24 years. She has experience in both clinical nursing and nursing management. She currently works in a community health setting as a co-ordinator of patient care.
Jane Watson-Brown: BA, Dip. LibJane is a Melbourne-based information professional with more than 25 years’ experience in specialist online literature searching. She has worked in the health and medical information centres and libraries for over 10 years. Jane's experience covers a range of disciplines including sexual health, infectious diseases, developmental disability and therapeutics. Over her career, Jane has taught searching & internet skills to individuals and groups from all walks of life.
Lorien Rooke: RN![]() Lorien has been a registered nurse for 27 years and worked as a senior clinical nurse in the community for 10 years. She has an extensive understanding of health and community care services and is currently working as a senior registered nurse in discharge planning for a tertiary hospital in NSW.
Ray Lovett: RN, BN, BHSc (CommPH), Master of Applied Epidemiology, Dip OH&S![]() Ray is an epidemiologist and registered nurse with a background in public health and management. He has extensive experience spanning a number of health sector settings, including Aboriginal community-controlled health services, and his skills and expertise include survey development; quality improvement systems in community health; policy development; research; data management, analysis and manipulation; facilitation; and business and strategic planning.
David Peters: RN, Post-Grad Dip Nursing Management![]() David is a registered nurse who has worked for many years in both nursing and health management across a range of settings in the Australian public hospital system. He has managed small, medium and large departments, including multidisciplinary teams. David is currently working as a Workers' Compensation Return to Work Coordinator.
