Diabetic ketoacidosis: An introduction

CPD hours:

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious and potentially life-threatening metabolic disturbance that may occur as a result of hyperglycaemia in patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

This short module provides an overview of what Diabetic ketoacidosis is, the pathophysiology of it, signs and diagnosis, and the treatment of Diabetic ketoacidosis. It briefly considers preventative measures.

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Know the precipitants of Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
  • Outline the pathophysiology of DKA.
  • Identify the symptoms of DKA.
  • Outline the treatment goals for DKA.
  • Describe the measures people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes may take to prevent DKA.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • This is learning objective 1.
  • This is learning objective 2.
  • This is learning objective 3.
  • This is learning objective 4.
  • This is learning objective 5.
  • This is learning objective 6.
