Medical grade honey in paediatric wound care

CPD hours:
1

Children are at high risk of injuries and wounds, and the potential complication of wound infections.

The use of medical grade honey in the treatment of wounds of varying origins and severities is shown to be safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective.

Whilst there is clinical evidence to support the use of medical grade honey in adults, the evidence for use in paediatric wound care remains limited.

This module discusses the historical and current applications of medicinal honey for wound healing. It considers the therapeutic effects, potential risks and adverse effects, of using medical grade honey in wound care, and specifically in paediatric wound care.

The module also discusses the state of research on medical grade honey.

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the historical and current use of medicinal honey, including identification of the types of wounds that can be effectively treated with this product.
  • Outline the therapeutic effects of medical grade honey on wound healing, including the antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and pro-healing effects.
  • Explain the potential risks and adverse effects of using medical grade honey in paediatric wound care.
  • Discuss current and potential future research, and the associated limitations, on the use of medical grade honey in paediatric wound care.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • This is learning objective 1.
  • This is learning objective 2.
  • This is learning objective 3.
  • This is learning objective 4.
  • This is learning objective 5.
  • This is learning objective 6.
