Prothrombin time and international normalised ratio: Diagnostic tests

CPD hours:
1

The content of this module is relevant to nurses and midwives providing care in a variety of healthcare settings. It defines what the prothrombin time (PT) and international normalised ratio (INR) blood tests are and how they help to determine a patient’s coagulation status and risk of bleeding.

This module also discusses coagulation processes, indications for PT/INR testing, blood specimen collection and testing procedures, interpretation of results, and limitations of PT/INR testing.

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Define prothrombin time (PT) and international normalised ratio (INR).
  • Provide a brief explanation of coagulation processes.
  • Discuss indications for PT/INR testing.
  • Describe important procedural points for blood specimen collection and testing.
  • Explain the interpretation of test results, including normal and abnormal ranges.
  • Discuss the limitations of PT/INR testing.

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • This is learning objective 1.
  • This is learning objective 2.
  • This is learning objective 3.
  • This is learning objective 4.
  • This is learning objective 5.
